See,i might be old fashioned, but i never got into this whole esports-twitch hype. Unless the devs designed this game to be the peak of esports.if thats case,i take it back.īecause i play games like this very casually, and if its designed for esport vets,i would avoid it. Well,in that context, mario karts drifting is more easily accessible and therefore more casual friendly/better. Mario kart is casual friendly, and by the looks of it,this game tries to be aswell. Since the racing school did a bad job at explaining this, lots of people might not even know this exists.ĥ-In that case, basically everything would be personal preference. There are games who do some things better than other games, otherwise we woulnt have all those game reviews on online platforms or in magazines along with awards. Im talking about the minor speed boost you get after drifting and then pressing the gas key. You might be talking about the, item''you get for a full speed meter but thats not what i mean. You simply need to get used t to it.ġ-If you need to,get used''to a basic game function for a long period of time, maybe thats bad design?įrom what i saw,im far from being the only one who has trouble with drifting.Ģ-The whole post is about the item mode, since thats all im interested in and played.ģ-The boost would happen once you stopped drifting, just like in mario kart.If you would actually be able to stop drifting at will,it would work nicely.Ĥ-I didnt see any indication for the boost, even in the racing school where i had to repeat the lesson multiple times. Just like any game in a particular genre, there will be differences. But now after playing and practicing for a bit it's perfectly fine. I played that first CBT and i also felt the drifting was weird. Originally posted by Excaliburger:-You're exaggerating on the drifting. It would be rather silly if we can all chat to one another but we can't play a game without crashing. As for in game chat, this is a CBT, i'm sure people chatting to each other is considered a low priority when compared to fixing bugs, streamlining the game and getting feedback. And if it's to simply watch people play it, i'm sure there will be some twitch streamers. Does it matter whether it's e-sports material or not? From the sound of it, even if it were e-sports material, you're not gonna be at the top. Whether mario kart did a better job or not is personal preference. You not noticing it is probably due to playing in item mode, which does not get a boost after drifting and therefor has no indication. Just like they show you in the racing school, there is an indication in the lower middle part of your screen. The boost not happening automatically isn't a bad thing considering it's fairly long, imagine getting a boost when you need to do non stop turning. But in race mode i'd like to see you get first place without drifting. Drifting not being worth it, in item mode i'll agree in 99% of the cases. Like, why let people play online via pc,but not let them communicate with anyone? On the other side, the games controls for drifting simply ARENT casual friendly. It looks more like a casual friendly racing game for younger people, since the game seems simple on the surface and is very colorful. I dont know what target audience you had in mind for this game, but it really doesnt give me any, competitive esports''vibes. Youre less likely to bump against walls,or lose control of your kart because the turns youre taking are not as sharp as here.Īnd youre really just drifting for the time where youre actually holding down the drift button, unlike here, where youre drifting even when NOT pressing the button. Mario kart did a much better job with drifting, since the speed boost activates automatically and you actually SEE when its ready. So far,i only saw very few people who even bothered to use it,and most of them failed pulling it off. Its also much easier to crash against walls while drifting.Ī small speed boost just isnt worth the risk.Īlso, why do you have to activate the boost manually, and why is there no visual effect that tells you when the speed boost is ready?Īnother thing i noticed and that makes drifting feel not really intuitive:ĭrifting doesnt stop when you want it to stop.Įven if youre just tapping the drift button for a very short moment, you will be drifting for at least 2 seconds. One little mistake, and you end up doing a 360 degree spin. The problem with drifting,is that its way too sensitive. Had to,since playing on a keyboard wasnt really a option.
